Hi Robin
I read the letter and inserted some really minor edits for your consideration. I hope you don't mind. Also , I'm wondering how you all feel about referring to ourselves as handicapped rather than disabled. Speaking for myself on this, I don't consider myself disabled or even differently abled. Rather, I do live with a physical handicap that requires me to do things differently . But the point is I am, as we all are , ABLE. Just something to consider.
Also are you guys collecting dues? If so where do I send it?
Where in Jersey are you guys? Maybe we could meet up and talk stuff over sometime? I live near Lk. Hopatcong.
I'm going to try and attach the letter now.
Talk to you soon.
be well
Tom
hmmm, couldn't attach so I inserted it.
Full Throttle for a Sweeter Ride
Most riders, either sport or cruiser revel when another rider comments on their choice of ride whether it is stock or custom. My sweet ride has nothing to do with a machine, but rather with what happens from the moment I wake up to the moment my head hits the pillow. The ride I’m talking about is life and what I do with it.
When I twist that throttle and the tires grip the asphalt and forward motion drives me deep into that seat, I feel an infusion of adrenaline and wonder. The sounds of the engine muscling its way through the exhaust pipes remind me of the fragility of life’s nuances.
Defying the wind and battling the rain and the elements are a reaffirmation that I live and breathe a bikers credo—I ride to live and live to ride.
If any person could exemplify the glory of two wheeled flight it would be the disabled rider. Self-pity, pain and physical challenges disappear as you see the world becoming smaller in your rear view mirrors. Disabled riders adapt, adjust and travel just like any non disabled rider.
We at the D.R.A. would like to guarantee this experience to this and other generations of disabled riders who want to fulfill their dream of riding free and living free. The camaraderie we foster is a part of our mission statement:
To pursue, promote and protect the interests of disabled motorcyclists ; to develop a better awareness of disabled rider issues, by both disabled and non-disabled riders alike. To provide assistance where possible to disabled riders and to create better informed and more enthusiastic relations between the general public, the media, and motorcyclists. To provide events and encourage participation of both disabled and non-disabled riders. To promote discussion among members of matters pertaining to motorcycles and support for the disabled rider community and in general to perform any service not forbidden by the laws of the United States.
The D.R.A. is a not for profit organization that wants and needs your membership. We want to embrace disabled and non disabled riders or even the non riding enthusiast , with the hope of a better tomorrow. A more integrated future. We want the opportunity to have a disabled riders run.
For $ 35.00 dollars a year and $ 30.00 dollars for current A.M.A. members you can be a member and wear our D.R.A. patch, which signifies your commitment to a better future for all riders.
