It seems the rain problem with the Pingel shifter may be common.  I found the following post in V-Twin Forum.com

Don

I have a Pingel and a Klicktronic. Right now the downshift side of the Pingel doesn't work. The (my) Pingel is much more susceptable to rain than the Klicktronic. They may have fixed this by now but I haven't seen a new one lately. Both units work well. The Pingel did come with the ignition interrupt, the Klicktronic has it as an option. I couldn't get the Pingel interrupt to work well on my Buell so I just took it off. I don't use the shifters for racing, I need them because I'm a left leg above knee amputee. Once I get the Pingel fixed I'll be fine with either of them. I think the Pingel is a little cheaper than the Klicktronic.

I understand completely and was not ruffled in the least by your pissed off sounding messages.  Having to deal with unreliable specialty equipment is such a large part of my life that I could easily identify with your frustration.

By the way Gail DeWitt, the USA rep for Klicktronic has a website (http://www.disabledmotorcyclerider.com/index.html) with links to several other companies offering trike conversions, automatic clutches and other equipment useful for the disabled rider.  I am especially impressed with Mystery Designs trike conversion kits:(http://www.disabledmotorcyclerider.com/mysterydesigns.html)
and the autoclutch (http://www.disabledmotorcyclerider.com/efmfaq.html).

I have spoken with Gail on the phone and found her to be very personable and helpful.

Yep I have talked with Gail and so has my Harley dealer and also the people from Kliktronic, everyone was very helpful.

The wife and I did a 10hrs 160mile bike ride for kids........very long day..........gave the Kliktronic a work out....lots of up and down shifting.................knocking on wood.............but everything seems to be working great................I got 3 more large rides coming up in the next month.............than will see............can you tell I'm still a little leery........lol
